Here’s what I ate/choked down on day 1 of the Bon Appetit Food Lover’s Cleanse.


Breakfast threw me for a loop, as I wrote about on City of Ate. Plain oats was a bit scary, so I added maple syrup and moved on. It wasn’t bad. Wasn’t great, either though. Deep breaths…


Temptation first came at lunch, when I agreed to be a good sport and go out to eat for my boss’s birthday. I ate a couple of cucumbers, followed by some dry beet salad. Then went and had my actual lunch.


Lentils I cooked the night before, with greek yogurt. Not my favorite. All the aromatics in the world couldn’t save lentils from tasting like, well, lentils.


The first night’s dinner was an improvement. Sea bass (since we couldn’t find black cod anywhere) with some of the caramelized onions I made on Sunday, caramelized apples, baked sweet potato slices and a tasty kale salad. My faith was renewed. 


I had cooked for probably 5 or 6 hours at this point and it was only the first day of eating.
