I have a list. It’s not long. It’s my favorite barbecue in Dallas. Here it is:

Yeah, that’s right. Pecan Lodge is officially #1 on a very short list of my best barbecue spots in Dallas. And yesterday, I sampled some of the best, just relocated: brisket, beef ribs and green chile mac ‘n cheese. It was glorious, it was a party, and it felt real good. Mafucker, it was good. I dreamt of burnt ends last night.

We were celebrating the new location, moved from the meh-managed Farmers Market shed II location to its own free-standing restaurant space in Deep Ellum, which is currently experiencing a culinary renaissance.

A band played while we ate, drank, mingled and even rubbed elbows with the dark and delicious Chef Marcus Samuelsson, who is in town for this weekend’s Fork & Cork in Addison. But I digress. There were many thank yous said, and finally the big announcement: a new signature brew in partnership with Four Corners Brewery! Boss Lady Rustic Red (named for Pecan Lodge co-owner Diane Fourton) will only be available at Four Corners and Pecan Lodge. Pretty cool.

The new Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum opens May 23. Prepare yourselves.

The new spot is on Main Street at Pryor, and it has both outdoor and indoor seating, a large, full bar and a designated space for what will surely be another long-ass line. But as always, it moves relatively quickly. The only issue will be parking, which is at a premium in Deep E. But there’s a lot on Commerce in the back with $2 all day, so grab a couple bucks before you head out for lunch and all will be well.
