The Pizza in My Backyard: a Look at the New Cane Rosso

Description

Hello, backlog! See, the good news is that since I waited so damn long to enjoy the greatness that is Cane Rosso White Rock, we can now conclude that the new location lacks no deliciousness in comparison to the original in Deep Ellum. It’s all good, you guys. The menu is larger, in fact, and the outdoor space at this location is particularly gorgeous.

See? It’s the same (well reversed-out) legit oven that produces the quick-cooked, droopy goodness you’d expect from Cane Rosso.20130614-003157.jpg

This baby was the Vegetale. Loaded up with tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, artichokes and more. I’m a pizza purist but every once in a while I like to get crazy.20130614-003206.jpg

My fellow dining guests (no, I did not eat all these delicious pies by myself) wanted to partake in some of chef Brian Luscher’s porky meats on their pizza. Just look at how good this ‘Emma’ looks. Too bad I don’t dig on swine…20130614-003215.jpg

The Regina Margarita is never a bad choice y’all. It’s the imported Bufala mozz that makes it special.20130614-003228.jpgWe were stuffed, but that didn’t stop us from ordering a dessert pie. Because you must. The only exception to this rule is if you order a dessert calzone. Do that. Heck do both. This was the Bella Mella, which boasts vanilla mascarpone, cinnamon apples, caramel and sea salt. Yup.

All in all, despite a 45 minute wait on a random weeknight at 8:00 pm, my expectations were super met and my stomach was incredibly pleased. Our waitress was great, the food was great and I got to impress some out-of-towners with the oft-proclaimed best pizza in Dallas.

SIDE NOTE #1:

I noticed this lil tidbit at the bottom of the menu, and it scares me. “Vegan cheese” is wrong. Normally, I would say “to each his own,” but this is a pizza place. Pizza has cheese. Except when you order some varieties which have none. If you don’t eat cheese because you are a vegan person, then order your pie without. I’m frankly surprised Jay “NO RANCH EVER” Jerrier bowed to the crazy hippies on this one. Surprised and ashamed. With all the talk of legitimacy regarding “authentic Neapolitan pizza” this is the ultimate insult to pizza as a whole. “Vegan cheese” is an oxymoron and a sad one at that. WTF. Okay I’m done. I still love you, Jay.

SIDE NOTE #2:

I cannot wait for Zoli’s to open, supposedly in August. NY style pie is my shit. Open-Open-OPEN!
